8km Tunnel Dewatering, Chile, South America

In a big powerplant project in Chile, 70km of tunnels were being drilled around the Andes. By design the tunnelling was separated into main tunnels and smaller supply tunnels. One of the latter ones was built with a total length of more than 8km for the purpose of providing access to the main tunnelling area. During the construction of this supply tunnel plenty of water had to be removed over a long distance.

Reitersberg Tunnel, Germany

The 2975 m long tunnel is being cut using mining methods. After the snow melted, the water incidence in the tunnel suddenly rose to a maximum of 20 litres/second. The medium was made highly abrasive by its slurried stone content. Massive drainage pump of types KTZ411 and KTZ611 (11kW) transport water over a distance of 500m to 1000m. The KTZ series is the perfect contractors' pump due to its good performance.
